The Ganeshotsav festival in Mumbai has begun with the installation of idols and the 'pran-pratishtha' aarti. The Lalbaug-Parel belt is the hub of festivities, with the Lalbaugcha Raja Ganeshotsav being the main attraction. The idol is placed in a set designed to commemorate Shivaji Maharaj's coronation. Other mandals have also created elaborate idols and replicas of historical landmarks such as the Raigad Fort. The police have increased security measures, including deploying plainclothes officers, installing CCTVs, and deploying thousands of staff members.
