The Delhi High Court has instructed the city government to provide Rs 30 lakh compensation to the widow of a sanitation worker who died in manual scavenging. The court cited a recent Supreme Court order that raised the compensation for dependents of victims in such cases. The widow had received Rs 10 lakh as compensation but requested an increase to Rs 30 lakh, along with comprehensive rehabilitation. The Supreme Court had urged the central and state governments to eradicate manual scavenging nationwide and mandated Rs 30 lakh compensation for sewer deaths.
