Environmentalists have raised objections to a state wildlife board meeting that approved a proposal for an environment impact study on twin tunnels passing through a national park in Mumbai. The project, estimated to cost Rs 16,600 crore, will require drilling 27 bore holes, with 15 in the protected area and eco-sensitive zone of the park. Environmentalists argue that the meeting did not follow proper procedure, with inadequate notice and agenda provided. They also question the need for the tunnels when a network of metros is being constructed.
