The Bombay High Court has directed a man, who was acquitted 12 years ago in a murder case based on a defence witness account, to surrender and sentenced him to life imprisonment. The case involved the murder of Akhil Qureshi, who was attacked by a mob in 2007 after his brother-in-law contested local elections. The court found that the trial court had displayed a "complete non-application of mind" in acquitting the man. It stated that there was sufficient evidence to establish his involvement in the crime.
