A recent study has found that a low-fat vegan diet, comprising fruits, vegetables, grains, and beans, can significantly reduce insulin needs in individuals with Type 1 diabetes. The research, conducted on 58 adults with Type 1 diabetes, showed that those following a low-fat vegan diet required 28% less insulin and experienced a 127% improvement in insulin sensitivity compared to a portion-controlled group. Additionally, participants on the vegan diet experienced weight loss and improved glycemic control, leading to a lower risk of heart disease.
