The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has stated that India can handle additional expenses on subsidies and rural unemployment programs without increasing its fiscal deficit target of 5.9% for the current financial year. The ruling party, under pressure to create jobs and support farmers, may increase expenditure beyond the planned amount.
