The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has proposed to reduce entry fees for various licenses by over 50% in order to encourage new players to enter the sector. However, TRAI has rejected calls from telecom operators to scrap bank guarantees (BGs) for these licenses, stating that they serve as a mechanism to protect against market uncertainties.
