India has launched a cargo shipping route between Kolkata's Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port and Myanmar's Sittwe Port as part of the Kaladan Multimodal Transit Transport Project. The project, which connects South Asia and Southeast Asia, will help the Northeast region of India receive access to international sea routes. The Sittwe port is integral to the multimodal transit facility along the Kaladan river, intended for connecting the Sittwe port in Myanmar to the state of Mizoram in India.
