Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) are primarily offloading their own and their clients' portfolios, rather than moving money out of India, according to Aman Chowhan, senior fund manager at Abakkus Asset Manager. Chowhan said that once the US economy recovers and FIIs move to rebuild or reshape their portfolios, India will begin to see high inflows again. Until that time, he expects redemptions from clients will continue to result in outflows. Chowhan recommended that portfolios focus on domestically driven companies, such as financials, cement and pharma, which he expects to perform well in the current market.
