As with all rights, freedom of expression when applicable to media must be also underpinned by ethics. It is the job of TV news to broadcast news. But airing images of mangled bodies or suffering victims takes this somewhere ugly. This also tellingly results in a bizarre kind of 'Orientalism' where showing certain kinds of people - Indians, South Asians, etc - in pain or worse are seen as fair game, while others (read: Westerners) are tastefully kept outside the glare of in-your-face tragedies. This apartheid, in turn, leads viewers to value lives of different people differently.
