In a twist of irony, two states seeking modern military platforms have settled for less. Thailand may choose patrol boats over Chinese submarines, while Argentina is acquiring used warplanes instead of new Chinese jets. According to Bangkok Post, a Thai navy source disclosed that the Chinese government has tentatively agreed to provide one of two options. China could provide Thailand with either two patrol boats or one frigate, instead of the submarine that has caused friction between the two sides for months.
