French lawmakers votes to make abortion constitutional right

The French parliament voted on Monday to include the right to abortion in the country's constitution, making it the first nation to provide explicit protection for terminating pregnancies in its basic law. ​​Both the lower and upper houses of parliament, gathered at the Palace of Versailles, easily obtained the three-fifths majority required for the change, with 72 lawmakers voting against.
