28,626 candidates file nominations for February 8 general elections in Pakistan

28,626 candidates, including 3,139 women, have filed nominations for the February 8 general elections in Pakistan. The elections will be held for 1,085 general and reserved seats of the national and provincial assemblies. Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtun-khwa, and Balochistan provinces have a total of 749 provincial assembly seats. The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has received 7,713 nominations for the National Assembly and 18,546 nominations for the provincial assemblies. A total of 459 women have filed nominations for reserved seats for women in the National Assembly, and 150 candidates have filed nominations for reserved seats for non-Muslims.
