Philippines accuses Chinese coast guard of shooting water cannon on its boats

The Philippines accused the Chinese coast guard of obstructing government vessels near Scarborough Shoal, a flashpoint in the South China Sea dispute. The incident involved the Chinese coast guard firing water cannons at Philippine Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources vessels delivering provisions to Filipino fishermen. China took control of Scarborough Shoal from the Philippines in 2012, and since then, Manila has reported harassment of its vessels and restrictions on Filipino fishermen. Scarborough Shoal is located 240 kilometers west of Luzon, the main island of the Philippines.
