IS attack kills seven pro-regime fighters in Syria

Seven pro-regime fighters were killed in a motorbike attack by the Islamic State group near Boukamal, a town on the Syria-Iraq border. This attack adds to the increasing number of casualties inflicted by IS this year, with 385 pro-regime forces and 165 civilians killed. The Islamic State's self-proclaimed 'caliphate' has been weakened since 2014 due to offensives by the international anti-jihadist coalition. Although IS was declared defeated in Syria in 2019, the coalition is still present to combat remaining jihadist cells.
