UN force deploys for operation 'Springbok' to save DR Congo civlians

UN peacekeepers deployed in the Democratic Republic of Congo are determined to protect civilians against rebels, despite accusations from many Congolese that the UN forces have failed in their mission. The joint operation, known as Springbok, was launched by the UN's MONUSCO mission and the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) to prevent the M23 rebels from taking control of Goma. The citizens movement Lucha has called for a sit-in in Goma to demand the departure of the UN mission and its troops.
