Anti-mafia author Saviano fined for calling Italy PM a 'bastard'

Italian author Roberto Saviano has been convicted of libel and fined 1,000 euros for calling Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni a "bastard" over her views on immigration. Saviano, known for his anti-mafia writings, will not have to pay the fine as it is part of a suspended sentence. The guilty ruling will be appealed. Meloni had sued Saviano for defamation in response to his criticism of her and fellow right-wing leader Matteo Salvini's attacks on migrant rescue-charity vessels.
