Ecuador under state of emergency after presidential candidate shot

Ecuador has declared a state of emergency after the assassination of a popular presidential candidate, journalist and anti-corruption crusader Fernando Villavicencio, at a campaign rally in the capital Quito. His murder is the latest episode of violence in a country whose murder rate has soared amid turf wars between drug gangs.
