LPA may turn into a storm and enter PAR in a week

MANILA, Philippines --- The state weather bureau said it was monitoring a new low pressure area (LPA) that may develop into a storm and enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) by the end of the week. In its weather report late Saturday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said that the new LPA was last spotted 3,400 kilometers east of Mindanao. The LPA is likely to develop into a storm in the next three days and may enter PAR on Jan. 17 or 18. It will be given the local name of "Amang," Pagasa weather specialist Benison Estareja said.
