It's raining thoughts

It’s raining emotions at Kerala Museum art gallery in Edappally. More than 70 multimedia artworks done by artist Jeena Niaz are ode to the nature and life itself. Jeena, who was born and brought in Thrissur, says her surroundings have inspired her thoughts.

“The environment I lived instilled in me the vision to develop my passion. I used to practise art during leisure right from my young age. Art took the backseat as I went ahead with studies and marriage. It was after moving to Riyadh I resumed my passion. The 10 years in Riyadh could be termed as the golden period in my artistic life,” says Jeena, who is grateful to her family for their constant. Her husband Niaz currently works in Bahrain. She has three children — Ajmal, Anhar and Ayisha. Right now, Jeena, an autodidact, is settled in Thrissur. During her stint as an expat, she could draw portraits of prominent personalities there. She treasures the moment when she gifted former Indian president late Dr A.P.J. Adul Kalam an oil portrait of him during his visit to Bahrain.

She does her realistic and abstract works depicting moods of nature mostly in oil, acrylic, mixed media, pencil and colour pencil, and has conducted exhibitions in Saudi Arabia and Thrissur. The current show titled It’s Raining is inspired from her fondness for rain and the havoc rain created during the past two floods. “I intend to donate 60 per cent of the profit generated from the show to the flood relief fund,” says Jeena.

The show was inaugurated by director Sathyan Anthikad, who is known for the depiction of rural life in his movies. He said art, be it films, music, or painting, is the reflection of one's life. “All forms of art complement each other,” he said. “Her decision to give a share to the flood affected has only increased the beauty and value of the show,” he added.

The show is on till September 22 from 10 am to 6.30 pm
