Delhi: This December most polluted in 5 years

This year, 2023, saw higher pollution levels during the winter due to adverse meteorological conditions and a lack of significant action to decrease pollution at source levels. The average daily PM2.5 concentration was 100 micrograms per cubic metre, which is 2.5 times higher than the annual national ambient air quality standards (NAAQS) and 20 times higher than the annual WHO safe limit. The average AQI in December 2023 was 348, making it the most polluted month in the past five years. Industrial and economical activities increased the consumption of fossil fuels, contributing to the rise in pollution levels.
