ECI moves SC against Bombay HC order on Pune by-poll; voter files caveat
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has filed a Special Leave Petition before the Supreme Court against the recent Bombay High Court order directing immediate by-poll for a Lok Sabha seat in Pune. The ECI's petition is yet to be numbered. The Bombay High Court held the reasons cited by the ECI and Centre for not conducting the by-poll yet as 'unacceptable'. Citizens have the right to be represented and the vacancy cannot remain unfilled for over a year, said the HC.
