Two students in Mumbai were sentenced to one-year rigorous imprisonment for obstructing the police from performing their duty. Although they were cleared of drunk driving charges due to lack of evidence, the court refused to show leniency. The students were stopped by the police on suspicion of riding under the influence of alcohol and allegedly abused the officers and caused damage to a police outpost. The judge stated that the absence of proof of them being under the influence of alcohol was not fatal to the case.
