‘Powai felt like a war zone’: Parts of Mumbai report deafening noise on Diwali

Despite strict vigilance by the police to enforce the high court order on bursting crackers between 8pm and 10pm, residents in various locations complained of loud explosions well past midnight. Fines were imposed on 734 individuals for violating the court order. Many citizens, including writer Vinta Nanda and environmentalist Debi Goenka, expressed their disappointment with the authorities for not taking action against those violating the order. Similar complaints were reported in different areas of Mumbai, including Powai, Shivaji Park, Mulund, and Kandivli. Thane police claimed no complaints were received, while the municipal corporation stated that pollution levels were under control.
