HC appoints wife as legal guardian of man in vegetative state for 6 yrs

The Bombay High Court has ruled that a wife can be appointed as the legal guardian of her husband who is in a vegetative state. The court based its decision on the fact that the husband's neurological condition had not changed for the past six years and was unlikely to improve in the near future. The wife had filed a plea to be appointed her husband's legal guardian and manage his estate and assets, as she was finding it difficult to cover the expenses for his treatment and their children's education. The court directed the wife to be appointed as the legal guardian but stated that the husband's parents could seek to have the order modified if they believed it was being misused.
