Fruit section of Byculla vegetable market to be shut because of cable-stayed bridge work

The fruit market section of the Sant Ghadge Maharaj Mandai in Mumbai will be closed to make way for a new road over-bridge (ROB). The current ROB has exceeded its recommended lifespan and the new project is expected to be completed by July 2024. The affected vendors will be accommodated within the mandai's vegetable section or the nearby Mehr Mandai. The market has 553 licensees, with 140 involved in the fruit trade. The BMC has entrusted Maharail with building the new ROB, which will feature a cable-stayed bridge with selfie points.
