Delhi had the highest number of deaths due to accidents among cities with a population of over a million last year, according to a report by the Union road transport and highways ministry. The city reported 4,720 accidents in 2021, resulting in 1,461 deaths and 5,201 injuries. Experts emphasize the need for accountability and a scientific analysis of the causes behind the rising accidents. Factors such as road condition, human error (speeding, drunk driving, etc.), and vehicle condition were identified as the main causes of accidents.
