Residents contest MCD's claims of no open burning

Residents in Delhi are questioning the intent of the Municipal Corporation Delhi (MCD) after not a single case of open or biomass burning was detected between October 6 and October 30. Despite complaints of waste burning and coal usage in eateries, the MCD needs evidence before penalizing offenders. The MCD has issued 152 challans and imposed Rs 33 lakh in fines for construction and demolition waste violations. Experts believe that inspections should be intensified in the city's outskirts and far-flung residential colonies.
