A comprehensive report released by the state traffic police in Maharashtra reveals that vulnerable road users, including pedestrians, cyclists, and two and three-wheeler occupants, accounted for 74% of the 15,224 road crash deaths in the state in 2022. Speeding was identified as the leading cause of fatal crashes, resulting in 11,493 deaths. The report highlights the need for speed management and suggests various actions to improve road safety, such as lowering speed limits, better infrastructure design, promoting public transport, and active mobility.
