The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has prohibited Cidco, the planning authority for Navi Mumbai, from leasing out a 25,000 sq m plot adjacent to the NRI Colony at Seawoods in Nerul. Local residents and activists have been opposing the auction of the plot, which is located in a protected area and is home to mangroves and flamingos. The NGT ruled that construction should be limited to non-CRZ areas and suggested using a small part of the plot for a garden and social facilities. Cidco has yet to comment on the ruling.
