Eye care specialists in Delhi have noted an increase in cataract patients under the age of 45, with Covid being a major factor. Previously, cataracts were associated with advanced age, but now they are occurring earlier due to factors such as poorly-controlled medical conditions, steroid use, eye trauma, and family history. Covid, specifically the high doses of steroids used in treatment, is a significant contributor. Other causes include high myopia and diabetes. Modern lifestyles and lack of exercise leading to earlier diabetes are also contributing. Fortunately, advanced surgery options are available to treat cataracts.
