Rice variant that could ease Delhi's woes

The Punjab government has shifted its support to the PR126 paddy variant, leading to a decline in the use of the once dominant PUSA44 variant. Developed to address Punjab's shrinking water table, PR126 offers quick growth and harvest, allowing farmers to grow an additional crop. PUSA44 was banned due to its susceptibility to disease and excessive water consumption. By introducing PR126, farmers have more time to grow other crops, reducing the need for stubble burning and conserving water.
