Mumbai double murder case: Chintan Upadhyay, 3 others convicted

Artist Chintan Upadhyay has been found guilty of criminal conspiracy and abetment in the murder of his estranged wife, artist Hema Upadhyay, in 2015. Three co-accused were convicted of committing the actual murder and destroying evidence. The sentence will be announced after arguments on the punishment. The prosecution relied on a confession by one of the co-accused and an alleged confession by Vidyadhar Rajbhar, who is still at large. The state will seek the death penalty for Chintan. The trial began in August 2019 and concluded on September 1, 2021.
