Amid cheer, Delhi bids adieu to Ganesh; violations minimal

The ten-day Ganesh Utsav in New Delhi concluded with thousands of devotees participating in idol immersions. Artificial ponds were created across the city for the immersions, with the help of volunteers, including many Muslims. Despite a ban on immersion in the Yamuna river, a few devotees managed to sneak to the riverfronts and immerse idols there. The use of clay idols that dissolve in water was preferred by some devotees to avoid pollution. Authorities had created temporary immersion ponds in residential areas to prevent idol immersion in the Yamuna.
