Scientists have used genetically modified mice to study the SARS-CoV-2 Omicron subvariants and found that the BA.5 strain is more virulent due to its ability to rapidly replicate early during infection. The study also found similarities between the mouse model and human behavior, with BA.5 being more virulent in both.
