Chandrayaan-3 gets closer to lunar surface

Isro late on Sunday completed its first Moon-bound manoeuvre a day after Chandrayaan-3 was guided into an elliptical lunar orbit. The spacecraft’s altitude at Apolune (farthest point from Moon) was reduced from 18,074km to take it closer to the lunar surface. On Saturday, the lunar orbit insertion (LOI) was carried out by retro-burning (done to reduce velocity) at the Perilune (closest point to Moon) for 30.5 minutes starting at 7.12pm.
