A female employee of a private bank in Pen, Raigad has been accused of misusing her authority and stealing gold ornaments of three customers worth Rs 28.50 lakh collectively. The accused, Priti Surve, stole the ornaments from the bank locker for her personal benefit. To not raise suspicion, she replaced the original ornaments with fake jewellery in the locker. She mortgaged the gold for Rs 21.10 lakh. When the bank discovered the theft, she was confronted and to avoid arrest she paid Rs 4.03 lakh to the bank.
