‘Someone had to punish her’: Youth who shot classmate at Greater Noida University campus

In a video, accessed by TNIE , which Anuj had recorded before killing Sneha, he revealed the reasons he took the step.

NEW DELHI: You can call me selfish or coward but I am not able to tolerate this pain. She can’t go on like this, breaking people’s hearts. Such people can destroy many lives and have no right to live. Someone has to punish her: these were the last words of Anuj Singh, a third-year sociology (BA) student who shot dead his classmate named Sneha Chaurasia inside a University in Greater Noida on Thursday.

In a video, accessed by TNIE, which Anuj had recorded before killing Sneha, he revealed the reasons he took the step. Anuj began the video by saying he was once a very good boy, a national-level player in Athletics, and joined a college in Greater Noida three years back where he met Sneha for the first time and she “completely changed his life”.

“I have faced a lot of problems in life. My sister was burnt alive by her husband. My uncle died last year of cardiac arrest because his wife left him as she wanted to be with some other man,” Anuj, who sounded completely broken, said.

The 21-year-old, who suffered from third-stage brain cancer which was also revealed for the first time in the video, said that three years back when Sneha met him, she had a guy named Anshu in her life and told him that person was troubling her for which Anuj helped her to get out of that “toxic relationship” without telling anyone.

“After that when I helped her, she started liking me and then she proposed to me. I told her not to do this because I have lost so much in my life and I don’t want to lose you. But still, she went ahead and I accepted. Everything was going extremely well, at least I thought that,” he said.

He shared that last year in December when he went home for his uncle’s last rites, Sneha remained in Greater Noida and it was that time she started cheating on him.“And that too with whom, a mess worker. I was in complete darkness, she never revealed anything. When I used to sleep, she used to talk to him and chat with him and before meeting me she used to delete all her chats,” he said.

The truth, that broke him completely, was shared by Sneha herself and she again asked his help as that mess worker was blackmailing her. He yet again helped her in this matter.“After I helped her, she cried, apologized and asked me to give her another chance and I did. I once again came into a relationship with her,” said Anuj, unaware that his happiness may not last long.He said Sneha then went to her home for some time and when she returned she was a completely different person.

“I kept asking her but she didn’t tell me anything. One day she finally asked me whether I could give her some time and a break from this relationship. I asked her for how long, and she said for an indefinite period. I asked her if I should keep the hope that you would ever come back, so she replied, ‘No, don’t keep this hope’,” the despondent man said.

At this point, Anuj was in no mood just to accept his fate. “I tried convincing her, cried in front of her and she changed the whole story in front of her friends. She told them that I was torturing and blackmailing her. She even lodged a complaint against me with the Dean’s office. They summoned me and I narrated my ordeal. They closed the complaint but did nothing for me,” he said.

Even as Anuj began coping with the situation, he found out that the girl was in a new relationship. At this point, he thought of ‘punishing’ her.“I do understand that if someone is not comfortable in a relationship they can leave but this is not acceptable. If there is a problem, the first duty is to communicate and try to sort and not end the relationship abruptly. She destroyed my life,” he said.“People will now tell me why can’t I sort my life. It is not easy, when a man gets attached to someone, it is not possible to move on. She needs to be punished,” he added.

Cops probing how youth got weapon

“We are yet to get a written complaint from the family of Sneha although we are investigating how and from where Anuj procured the countrymade pistol that was used in the incident,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Greater Noida) Saad Miya Khan. He said the victims were in a relationship for about a year and a half but it ended sometime back.
