He died protecting MCD park against illegal shrine; it may be site for garbage now

Kamal Thakur, a 55-year-old small-time shopkeeper in Naraina in West Delhi, got a bullet in his head because he dared to complaint against a woman who had encroached on an MCD park to build a temple, adjacent to her one-room tenement. Thakur paid with his life because civic authorities rarely ever act on complaints against illegal shrines and are often in no hurry to reclaim their land. He paid with his life because this spirited man believed he could achieve the impossible, because residents of the area, wary of inviting the ire of the woman, Renu Devi, who allegedly had a nexus with local goons, had turned on him.
