Restaurant owners in Delhi peg losses on liquor unavailability

"We face the daily embarrassment of having to explain to diners why good quality alcohol is not available in our restaurant," said a restaurateur with a grim expression. "If a diner asks for Black Label or Chivas, we have no option but to suggest Black Dog or Teachers in their place. We lose business in the process." Since the new excise policy was scrapped and the old one reintroduced, many alcohol brands aren't registered in Delhi, leaving bars and restaurants complaining that brands they want are unavailable and those that are available run out before online orders can be placed because of inadequate supply.
