CHENNAI: Apparently buoyed by the party’s victory in the recent by-polls to Vikravandi and Nanguneri Assembly constituencies, AIADMK senior and Fisheries Minister D. Jayakumar has said that the AIADMK is cruising super fast to win the local bodies elections. “The AIADMK is sure to win,” he said.
Apparently claiming that the party’s preparation for the civic bodies polls, for which the schedule is to be announced, is “super fast” Mr. Jayakumar who is AIADMK’s organising secretary, said “we are proceeding super fast… everyone knows that the DMK is losing headway.”
The voters in Vikravandi (Villupuram district) and Nanguneri (Tirunelveli district) Assembly constituencies gave an overwhelming victory to the AIADMK, as they have realised who is needed for the State. “They had decided against the DMK, which has betrayed Tamil Nadu’s interest and gave a verdict in favour of the AIADMK. This trend will continue in the local bodies elections and Assembly elections (in 2021) too,” he added.
Recently, Mr. Jayakumar had accused the opposition DMK of being “indifferent” towards local bodies’ polls and claimed that DMK was seeking to evade the issue of participation in the elections. It was “silent” on who would be its allies. This only showed that “the DMK has become weak,” he argued. However, contrastingly, the ruling party was all prepared to face the polls.
“Once we register a spectacular victory in the elections, we are confident of continuing our winning streak in the 2021 Assembly polls,” he added.
Speaking to reporters at Saidapet here on Monday, the Minister said artificial reefs would be created in Chennai, Kanchipuram and Tiruvallur districts at a cost of Rs. 10 crore to protect fishermen's livelihoods. Replying to a question, he said Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami and Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam undertook overseas trip to fetch global investments into Tamil Nadu.
