Thanjavur: Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) used for casting votes by people in Thanjavur Lok Sabha constituency and Thanjavur Assembly constituency were brought to Kundavai Nachiyar government arts college for women here and sealed in the safety room in the presence of officials and candidates and their polling agents on Friday.
Jagadeeswar, general observer for Thanjavur Lok Sabha constituency, Narender Shankar Pandey, general observer for Thanjavur assembly constituency, A. Annadurai, Thanjavur district collector and returning officer for Thanjavur Lok Sabha constituency and C. Suresh, Revenue divisional officer of Thanjavur, who is the returning officer for Thanjavur Assembly constituency and some candidates and polling agents of other candidates were present on the occasion.
Annadurai later told presspersons that three-tier security has been arranged in which para-military, Tamil Nadu Special police and local and armed reserve police will guard the college strong room in which EVMs were kept, round-the-clock.
Three hundred police personnel will be on duty under supervision of an additional superintendent of police and two deputy superintendents of police. A total of 102 CCTV cameras have been installed for continuous surveillance.
