IIM Director appointment guidelines revised: Centre notifies major changes

The Indian government has issued new guidelines for the appointment of directors at Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs), requiring a PhD or its equivalent from a recognized university. The President will now act as a "Visitor" to the schools, with the power to designate the chairperson of the board of governors, appoint and remove directors, and dissolve the board if necessary. The eligibility criteria for directors now include a "distinguished" academic record with first-class degrees at the Bachelor's and Master's level, in addition to a PhD or equivalent. The Visitor will also have the final say in director appointments.
