IIT Bombay faces scrutiny for allegedly denying seats to SC, ST, and OBC students while admitting more general category students in the 2023 PhD admissions. Despite claims of implementation, several departments at the institute have not admitted ST, SC, or OBC students in recent years. This comes after IIT Bombay issued anti-discrimination guidelines following a student's alleged suicide due to caste-based discrimination.
