The first electric Maruti Suzuki is finally here and it is in compact SUV form. The e Vitara is a compact SUV and is their first electric offering for India while being slotted at the most competitive end of the segment. This is a born electric SUV which means it has no connection with other ICE SUVs or even the Grand Vitara with which it shares its name. It is the production version of the eVX concept which was shown earlier in India.
Production will start at Suzuki Motor Gujarat in India later in 2025. The talking point is the newly developed platform “HEARTECT-e” specifically for BEVs or electric cars with many platform benefits including a longer wheelbase at 2700mm. Hence, the floor and the cabin is spacious for its size and it has short overhangs too.
The design is different from other Maruti Suzuki cars while it has a length of 4275mm along with a wheelbase of 2700mm. It has the charging point at the flanks while the front has DRLs which are distinctive long with the LED light design with a three point signature. There are 49kWh and 61kWh battery packs with single as well as dual motor. The dual motor version packs in AllGrip-e all wheel drive.
The battery is LFP (Lithium Iron-phosphate) while it is a ‘blade’ battery from BYD, which is famous for those. The claimed range on offer for the e Vitara is more than 500km. Also it has 7 airbags standard. The e Vitara will compete with the likes of the Hyundai Creta electric and the Tata Curvv EV plus the Mahindra BE 6 amongst others.
