China crude imports up 14% on year ahead of peak travel

China's crude oil imports in September increased by almost 14% compared to the same period last year, as refiners ramped up purchases ahead of the Golden Week travel period. Shipments reached 45.74 million metric tons, or 11.13 million barrels per day (bpd), according to data from the General Administration of Customs. This trend of higher imports has been observed throughout 2023, with imports surpassing 2022 levels.
