China's newly appointed ambassador to Afghanistan, Zhao Xing, presented his credentials to the acting prime minister of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, Mohammad Hassan Akhund. While China claims it is a normal rotation, the Taliban sees it as an opportunity to legitimize their rule and expand cooperation. China has shown interest in investing in Afghanistan's mineral deposits and signed oil extraction and mining deals with Chinese companies.
