The Indian government plans to restructure the agencies responsible for highway projects by creating a dedicated cadre of executives that can be promoted internally, rather than relying on officers on deputation. The proposed changes would help the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corp Ltd (NHIDCL) operate more like Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs). NHAI and NHICL currently rely on officers on deputation to fill key roles.
