Rising tomato prices increases thali cost for the third month in a row: CRISIL

The cost of a thali in India rose for the third consecutive month in July. The cost of both vegetarian and non-vegetarian thalis increased by 34% and 13% respectively. The increase is mainly due to a significant rise in the price of tomatoes, which contributed 25% of the 34% increase in the cost of a vegetarian thali. The prices of onion and potato also rose contributing further to the increase in cost. Meanwhile, the cost of a non-vegetarian thali rose at a slower pace due to a decline in the price of broilers.
