MBBS seats in India increase 110 per cent since 2014, Centre tells Lok Sabha

The number of medical colleges in India has increased by 82%, from 387 before 2014 to 704 currently, with corresponding growth in the number of MBBS and post-graduate medical seats, according to Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya. A centrally-sponsored scheme (CSS) aimed at new medical college establishment has led to the approval of 101 medical colleges, including one in Assam, he added. The CSS also hopes to enhance medical education facilities in underserved areas and aspirational districts.
